When I wanted to reveal
the science of the mystery (‘secreta operas mundi’) and of the
processes of creation, I found a dark cave, full of shadows and winds. I
could not discern anything because of the darkness and I could not keep my
lamp alight because of the force of the winds. Then a being appeared to me
in my sleep whose aspect was one of great beauty. It said to me: take a
light and put it in a glass lantern which will protect it from the winds,
so that it will shine despite the strength of the wind. Thus is will
penetrate into the subterranean room.”
