When someone asks you what Sign of the Zodiac you are, and you answer with your birth sign, say Gemini, in effect we are only giving 10% of the information necessary to know something about that person. It is more correct, of course, to ask: "What is your Sun Sign" to which you would answer, for example: "Gemini. " And those in the Know, might follow this with: "Where's your Moon?" But they might also continue with: "Where's your Venus?" "Where's your Mercury?" "Where's your Mars?" "Where's your Saturn?" "Where's your Jupiter?" "Where's your Uranus?" "Where's your Neptune?" "Where's your Pluto?"And indeed, why not ask? And why not find out, if you do not know. The question is, why do we only use the Sun Sign, the 10% as an indicator of who we are?Who are we anyway? There are 10 Planets in 12 Houses in Basic Astrology but:The Sun Sign is a good place to start, and an even better subject to begin with, is the Symbol of the Sun, which is:THE SYMBOL OF THE SUN, is a very ancient symbol, and can be traced back to the Dawn of Human civilization. It can be seen on Bronze Age vases and copper jewellery. For example:Robert Graves suggested that it was a Sacred Tattoo for all Workers with Fire . . i.e. the Blacksmiths, forgers, metal smiths, upon whom early civilization depended. The Promethean People, we could call them, the Ones who handled fire, who were considered a class apart, for stealing the Fire from the Gods.In this sense, the Sun Itself, is the Ultimate Symbol of Fire in our relative lives . . . upon which all Life depends . . ALL LIFE... the SUN Being the Centre of many religions, and worshiped in its own right as a Divinity, in what we call Solar Worship.I think that when we pay attention to the Sun Sign we should get stretch marks on our minds, & open our consciousness up wide to the reality of the Sun . . . . & all the associated material that goes with it.Then perhaps, we will have a richer insight into why the Sun is in the particular House at the time of our birth. This we will try to do, bit by bit, and in the context of the Signs themselves.Samten
